BALO-I, Lanao del Norte, March 1 (PIA TFBM ICCC) — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Christine Villas, a housing program for the personnel of Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police based in Northern Mindanao and nearby provinces.

“I would like to assure the soldiers na sa panahon ko wala kayong problema. Sa panahon ko, may bahay kayo,” Duterte said.

[I would like to assure the soldiers that during my term, you will not have problems… during my term, you will have houses.]

Pasalamat ako’t nakausap ko ‘yung mga sundalo. Salamat sa serbisyo ninyo. Saludo ako sa inyo,” he added.

[I am very thankful that I have talked to the soldiers. Thank you for your services. I salute you.]

A thousand housing units, each with a lot area of 80 sq. m. and a floor area of 60 sq. m., will be constructed within140,000 sq. m. of land located in Barangay Maria Cristina, Balo-i town, Lanao del Norte. Each housing unit will be equipped with living, dining, toilet and bath, and family areas, along with two bedrooms. A multi-purpose covered court, play and green areas will also be provided.

Duterte also commended the National Housing Authority for its performance.

Maganda ang performance ng NHA ko kasi walang corruption. Pagka ang pera nagamit sa wastong paraan, meron ka talagang makikita,” he said.

[The performance of NHA is good because there is no corruption. If money is used appropriately, you can really see a good result.]

In total, 9,037 housing units will be built nationwide under the new AFP/PNP housing program.

“I think we have seven more down the road. Meron pa sa Mati which we need to groundbreak pa, another 2,000 housing units in Davao aside from the LRB. We will have [units] in Tarlac, in Loakan Heights in Baguio City where the home of PMA is located, in Bacolod and Zamboanga,” said NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr.

“More or less ang babayaran ng sundalo is P880,000 so from P950,000 minus P70,000 more or less P880,000 divided by number of years maximum of 25 years, so that’s very minimal. Around P5,700 lang ang monthly amortization ng isang sundalo at isang pulis, if you compare this sa commercial sa housing projects ang monthly amortization nito is P12,000 to P15,000,” Escalada added.

Developed by Eddmari Construction and Trading, this is the third housing project launched by PRRD under the New AFP/PNP Housing Program through the Design and Build scheme of the NHA, targeted to be turned over on December 2019. (LEAntonio/PIA ICCC)
