MARAWI CITY, Jan. 18 (PIA-ICCC) – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) reaffirmed its commitment and concern for the ongoing Marawi rehabilitation in a media forum Thursday, Jan. 17, on the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) plebiscite held at Marawi Resort Hotel here.
Representing the MILF, Dr. Marjani Mimbantas said that Marawi rehabilitation is actually number six on the priorities of the MILF once the BOL is ratified.
He believes that the Marawi siege happened because of the frustrations of the Moro people after series of setbacks in their quest for autonomy.
“Since the Tripoli Agreement up to the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and the deliberation of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) on the 16th Congress which failed to be passed into law, some of our people were disappointed or felt neglected. If BOL will push through, lawless groups will run out of reason to go against the government,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) Commissioner Ammal Solaiman expressed her confidence that BOL will be an assurance that bloodshed and chaos like the Marawi siege would never happen again.
“As Chairman Ghadzali Jaafar said that BOL is an antidote to violent extremism. There are provisions in it that can certainly help Marawi rise again peacefully and will end violence,” Solaiman underscored.
MILF is now actively engaged in information dissemination about the BOL in the different parts of Mindanao as the day of plebiscite approaches, which will be done in all ARMM provinces as well as in areas which had petitioned with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) signifying their interest to be part of the new Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
