ILIGAN CITY, April 26 (PIA-ICCC) – The Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) released today the exact number of legitimate Marawi siege victims.

Based on TFBM’s new masterlist from Kathanor, a biometrics-based profiling of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marawi City, as of April 15, 2019, they have profiled a total of 37,479 displaced families from the 24-barangay most affected area (MAA) and 72 barangay Non-MAA.

On the press briefing held inside Marawi’s most affected area last April 12, TFBM chairperson and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Secretary Eduardo del Rosario explained that the initial data collected at the height of the siege is too much.

“From 78,000 families, we are now down to 36,000, as of today. Meaning to say, the 78,000 families are a bloated figure. If ever these 36,000 will increase, we expect it to reach 40,000,”

As Kathanor continues to accommodate bypassed families from Marawi City who were scattered to as far as Manila and abroad, TFBM revealed that the number of IDPs have reached 37,479 so far.

Del Rosario also shared that the data Kathanor collected had coincided with the 2015 Census data which makes it more reliable.

“The primary reason why we conducted Kathanor is to ensure that only credible residents will be profiled,” he added.

From the 37,479 figure, 15,727 families are from Marawi’s MAA and 21,752 families are from outside MAA.

TFBM member-agencies and humanitarian organizations are now using the Kathanor data to easily identify legitimate Marawi IDPs to receive the support and assistance they provide. (WLBacelonia/PIA-ICCC)
