ILIGAN CITY, June 25 (PIA ICCC) – To expand and strengthen the information and communication technology (ICT) in Marawi City and the neighboring communities in Lanao del Sur that were affected by the May 23, 2017 siege, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) has implemented advanced and digitized projects including the installation of 53 government network (GovNet) in the area.
GovNet aims to interconnect the agencies to provide a more efficient government services through online transactions.
The DICT also aims to improve the education system in the war-torn city through the provision of Free Public Wi-Fi internet access to about 402 school-beneficiaries. It also seeks to implement an underground aerial communication cable system to complement the rehabilitation of the city’s most affected area (MAA)
DICT’s message center and a tower facility will also be constructed in the city to facilitate the implementation of the different government programs to perk up economic, social and educational development inside the MAA.
Aside from providing Master Development Plan for the physical reconstruction of Marawi, DICT also pursues recovery programs for the residents by giving them digital literacy and center management training to improve their capabilities for ICT-related jobs.
DICT also recognizes the role of the Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) in providing employment opportunities to the trainees, as it implements the Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS) technical training for “information and technology (IT) intellectuals” in the city.
RIS training aims to raise IDPs’ employability by focusing on the development and improvement of their ICT skills.
An orientation about the digitized business permit and licensing system was also given by DICT to the city government of Marawi and Lanao del Sur province. (LJKabagani/PIA ICCC)
