ILIGAN CITY, Aug. 2 (PIA-ICCC) – Two explosions are expected to be heard tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 3, as the Explosive Ordnance and Disposal (EOD) Team of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will detonate the two unexploded ordnances found inside the most affected area (MAA) of the war-torn city of Marawi.

In an interview with Task Force Bangon Marawi Field Office (TFBM-FO) Manager and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Assistant Secretary Felix Castro Jr. during the “Bangon Marawi, Bangon Ranao” Radio Program on Thursday, Aug. 1, he announced that they will make it sure everyone will be safe during the process.

“We will have to close the Mapandi Bridge to Papandayan route during the detonation. The UXO actually penetrated deeply underground and located in an open field,” he said.

It was after the Edmarri Construction and the EOD Team found and located a 260-pounder in Sector 2 and another 110 pounder in Sector 4 of MAA.

TFBM and the AFP agreed in a meeting earlier that UXO detonations would always be scheduled on Saturdays.

The search for and detonation of UXOs form part of the ongoing Debris Management inside the Marawi’s MAA to ensure that the displaced Marawi residents will be safe when they return to their homes. (WLBacelonia/PIA-ICCC)
