MARAWI CITY, Oct. 14 (PIA ICCC) – The Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) member-agencies, local government units (LGU) of Marawi and Lanao del Sur and partner agencies here are gearing up for the Kapananadem or the commemoration of the second anniversary of the city’s liberation from IS-linked terror group.

Various activities have been lined up to provide services to the families affected by the siege.

TFBM Field Office Manager and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Assistant Secretary Felix Castro Jr. said that activities are designed to commemorate the liberation from the five-month fighting between the security forces and ISIS-inspired Maute group that erupted in the city on May 23,2017.

“Inaalala natin ito para maalala natin at magunita ang sakripisyo ng mga sundalo at sibilyan na tumulong para maliberate ang Marawi,” said Castro.

(We are commemorating this [liberation]in order to remember the sacrifices of the soldiers and civilians who have helped in liberating the city.)

Castro also said that TFBM is doing its best to provide assistance to the internally displace persons.

Meanwhile TFBM chair and DHSUD Secretary Eduardo del Rosario reiterated the government’s pledge in bringing normalcy back to the city by December 2021.

Del Rosario also emphasized that the commemoration is to give importance to the soldiers who lost their lives during the five-month siege, as well as the strength and resilience shown by the government and affected communities.

Some of the activities include trade fair, Kawiyagan (livelihood distribution), Run for Peace, among others.
