MARAWI CITY, Oct. 17 — Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (now DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo del Rosario led a wreath-laying ceremony at the 103rd Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Kampo Ranao to commemorate the second-year anniversary of Marawi’s liberation on Thursday morning.

Joining del Rosario, who is also Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) chief, in the solemn event were Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Carlito Galvez and several other government officials. Del Rosario reiterated at the event the government’s commitment in ensuring Marawi’s rehabilitation by December 2021, stressing that the TFBM, along with the 56 member-agencies remain on track to fulfilling President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s pledge in bringing normalcy back to the city soon.

Galvez, on the other hand, said the ceremony is meant to honor the sacrifices of soldiers and civilians who offered their lives to liberate Marawi from terrorists during the five-month siege that erupted in May 2017.

The secretary noted that efforts are ongoing to further bolster security and promote peace not only in Mindanao, but the whole country as well.

Del Rosario likewise took part in the Marawi Peace Forum held at the IPDM Hall, MSU Main Campus, wherein he stressed that the TFBM intends to become a beacon of hope for individuals affected by the siege.

He said the government intends to declare the Most Affected Area as “safe” by the end of October this year so that all infrastructure projects could commence by either next month or in December 2019. (CVCabajar/HUDCC)
