MANILA, Oct. 29 – Extending the enforcement of Martial Law in Mindanao will definitely be a big boost for the city of Marawi.
The remark came from Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (now DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo D. del Rosario, who stressed that a fourth extension of military rule could significantly bolster government efforts in rehabilitating Marawi following the five-month siege orchestrated by the IS-inspired terror group Maute in May 2017.
According to del Rosario, who is also Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) chairman, continuously placing Mindanao under Martial Law will play a key role in hastening government-led reconstruction efforts in the war-ravaged city.
“I support that, being the head of Task Force Bangon Marawi, because I would like that the rehabilitation would continue unabated or without threat from any group,” said del Rosario during a recent interview with Rappler’s Pia Ranada. The Secretary also stressed that military rule could quash any form of hostility that can impede Marawi’s ongoing rehabilitation.
Del Rosario’s comments echoed Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr’s message during his speech at the recent commemoration of the second-year anniversary of Marawi’s liberation from terror-linked elements, wherein he also expressed his support for the extension of Martial Law not only in the province, but in the whole Mindanao.
