MARAWI CITY, Nov. 6 (PIA ICCC) — The Social Enterprise Conference 2019 (SECon2019) has gathered here 100 aspiring young social entrepreneurs from Marawi and other municipalities of Lanao del Sur.

Organized by the Marawi Tourism Social Enterprise Inc., Mindanao State University – Technology Innovation Center, the conference was also sponsored by Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament Member (MP) Atty. Maisara Damdamun Latiph.

MTSE Chief Executive Officer Annas C. Deriposun said that SECon2019 aims to “provide services for disadvantaged groups, in both urban and rural areas.”

“Social enterprises also yield to education, culture, environment, and peace as a support to complete the tool of empowering the marginalized sectors of conflicted area so as not to be easily swayed into violence,” he added.

Meanwhile, MP Latiph also emphasized that their office is committed in providing different capacity building to empower their constituents as they establish their business that is socially responsible.

“We are translating the output of every activity or program into legislation for the welfare of the Bangsamoro people. Our office is committed to investing in people empowerment, clean environment for our planet and long-lasting peace in BARMM,” Latiph said.

The two-day conference also provided an avenue for the participants to learn about social enterprise measurement tools, social action plans, linkages, and partnerships. Some participants also pitched their projects.

Maranao entrepreneurs also displayed  intricate hand-woven products, creative Maranao innovations, and Maranao delicacies.

Successful social entrepreneurs also shared their inspiring stories and experiences to the youth.
