MARAWI CITY, Nov. 26 – Showing commitment in instilling quality education particularly among the Muslim youth, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (now DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo del Rosario headed the turnover ceremony of a Madrasah building in Barangay Mipaga on Tuesday.
Del Rosario, who is also Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) chairman, said education plays a crucial role in helping Muslims, especially the Maranao youth, in becoming productive and dependable citizens.
He also stressed that learning centers such as the Madrasat Mipaga Al-Islamiyah helps promote the true teachings of Islam and prevent young Muslims from joining extremist groups.
The Madrasah was a joint project by the TFBM, the Organization of Socialized and Economic Housing Developers of the Philippines Inc (OSHDP) and private partners. OSHDP is the country’s top body for mass housing developers. The organization’s main objective is to promote a productive housing sector by means of providing decent and affordable housing units.
Funds for the project were raised through the Bangon Marawi Golf Cup, which was jointly organized by TFBM and OSHDP on May 28, 2019.
Also present in the event were TFBM Field Office Manager Asec Felix Castro Jr and Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra. In his message, the mayor expressed Marawi’s gratitude to the government’s efforts in fast-tracking the war-hit city’s rehabilitation.
He likewise called on his constituents to also take the lead in bringing normalcy back to Marawi, urging them to take care and utilize well structures and facilities provided by the government. (CVC/HUDCC)
