MARAWI CITY, June 29 (PIA TFBM ICCC) – GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) held a groundbreaking ceremony in Camp Bagong Amai Pakpak Elementary School (CBAPES) for the construction of two 4-classroom Kapuso type school buildings.

The construction is part of GMAKF’s Rebuild Marawi Project which aims to provide assistance to students and aid in the rehabilitation of schools in the city.

One of the buildings will be constructed in CBAPES while the other in Pendolonan Elementary School where a two-classroom reinforced concrete school building will also be rehabilitated.

Construction of the said buildings will begin on July 2, 2018.

Meanwhile, Norhanifah Alikhan, a teacher from CBAPES stressed on the importance of a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

“School is a second home. Kapag kasi malinis yung classroom mo, maganda…mas lalo kang ginaganahang magturo nang maayos sa mga anak mo…at saka mas lalo mong nakikita yung interes ng mga bata,” said Alikhan.

She recalls her students’ condition while she was teaching amidst airstrikes during last year’s siege, “Last year, medyo may fear pa, medyo alanganin pa sila.”

Through the efforts of the Department of Education (DepEd) and its partners from both the government and private sectors, schools in Marawi and its students’ situation has started to improve.

“This time, ‘pag makita mo yung mga bata, eager silang pumasok,” she added.

More students are enrolled this school year in CBAPES compared to the last, surely through the completion of the classrooms, more students will be well accommodated.

Alikhan, along with other stakeholders are happy that they have received such donation from GMAKF.

Moreover, Education Program Supervisor of DepEd ARMM Marawi City Division Omaimah Hadji Isah Daluma expressed their appreciation of the said donation.

“The people of Marawi and the Department of Education of Marawi City are extending our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the GMA Kapuso Foundation,” Daluma said. (JSoriano/PIA-ICCC)
