ILIGAN CITY, May 20 — As part of its overall response to the “Philippine COVID-19 Response Call to Action”, Sumpay Mindanao conducted a two-day relief distribution to two (2) partner communities in Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte.
These relief activities, funded by Caritas Germany, were pushed through in coordination with the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), the local government units of Iligan (IATF-Iligan), Municipality of Matungao, and Marawi City, and the Mindanao People’s Peace Movement (MPPM).
MPPM provided human resource support since two (2) of the project personnel were not able to participate in the actual distribution due to the lockdown and health risks.
On 4 May 2020, the team distributed assistance to the 119 displaced families sheltered in Bakwit Village, Barangay Pangi, Municipality of Matungao, Lanao del Norte. The relief goods contain 5 kilos of rice, sugar, 50 grams of coffee, face mask, and seeds. They also received information, education, campaign materials on COVID-19.
A total of 145 displaced families in the CRS transitory site, Barangay Rorogagus, Marawi City also benefited from the relief distribution and information campaign.
During the distribution, Joel Cuabo, the project coordinator gave a short explanation on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He emphasized the importance of frequent hand washing using soap and water for at least 20 seconds; avoiding touching of eyes, nose, and mouth; observing and maintaining a physical distance of at least 1 meter from other persons, in particular from those with respiratory symptoms like coughing and sneezing, practicing respiratory hygiene and encouraging others to do the same: covering of nose and mouth with a bent elbow or proper tissue or clean towel when coughing or sneezing.
